ELASTIC ADHESIVE BANDAGES:
Elastoplast, Leukoplast, Tensoplast, Vivolastic, are some of the commonly known names of the bandages which are the workhorses of taping and strapping in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
Where Trainer's Tape or zinc oxide tapes are stiff and used for the effective immobilisation of joints, elastic adhesive bandages are manufactured using a combination of cotton and latex which creates elasticity in the bandage.
Most commonly seen around the heads of rugby players these tapes are also widely used in strapping and taping techniques which require a degree of movement, or for the application of compression in soft tissue injuries.
There are two basic types on the market cut edge (straight edge) such as Vivolastic or ribbon edge e.g. Elastoplast
In UK sport cut edge EAB has traditionally been the bandage of choice.
The adhesives have tradionally been zinc oxide, but in recent years as with Trainers Tape the use of acrylic adhesives is on the increase. |
